Choose your ideal portrait

If you are interested in commissioning a portrait, please feel free to message me via the contact page or via email. Please tell me what you have in mind, I am happy to answer any questions and will work with clients from any locations.

Here is a step-by-step guide to the process:

How it works

1. Choosing a reference photo

Select your best high-resolution photograph, which shows the unique details, for example, hair, a pet’s fur, eyes, markings and the nearest likeness in colour and character.

If you have photos, but are unsure if they are good enough, please feel free to email them to me at sales@danielsportraits.co.uk. I will be happy to look at them and let you know if the resolution and detail is enough for me work with.

2. Choosing size and technique

Decide on the size of portrait that you would like, the composition and the finish e.g. pencil, charcoal, pastel or colour pencil and for example, head and shoulders or full body with/without a background. Please see my prices page for further details of costings for A5, A4, A3 and A2 sizes.

3. Confirming final cost of the drawing

Complete the order form and email me the photographs. The order form can be found below. The final price will depend on size, technique and complexity of the drawing (for example, plain/faded or detailed background, single, double or group portrait. Shipping costs will be confirmed at the same time.

4. Creating a mock-up

When the design for the portrait has been agreed, I will create and send to you a mock-up for your approval before commencing the final piece. The timescale for delivery will also be agreed at this stage. There is usually a lead time of 4 – 8 weeks, but if you need something more quickly, then please email me.

5. Payment of deposit

The next stage is to place a deposit of 50% via bank credit transfer.

6. Approval of final drawing and payment

Once the drawing is complete, I will email you a range of photos for your approval and I will complete any tweaks or changes that you would like. I will then ask you for the remaining fee and shipping payment.

7. Shipping and delivery

Your portrait will be packed extremely carefully in acid-free paper and rolled in a tube to be delivered via a tracked and insured service. I will provide you with a tracking number as soon as we post the portrait.

Style choices

By browsing through my gallery, you will get a sense of the different finishes through the use of the different media. This will help you decide on your final preference. If you like an exquisite level of detail, then pencil or charcoal are very effective and would be my recommendation. However, if you like colour, warmth and texture, then colour pencil or pastel would suit here.
